Literary circles stood up and took notice when Marjane Satrapi released her comic book memoir Persepolis in 2003. In the book, Satrapi tells the story of her youth growing up in Iran, tackling complex issues of patriotism, family, and love. This highly acclaimed comic has now been adapted into a feature-length animated film, co-directed by the artist and Vincent Paronnaud. The film version of Persepolis won a Grand Jury prize at Cannes this year, as well as receiving honors from the Sao Paulo, Vancouver, and Cinemanila Film Festivals and the British Film Institute. It’s coming about the movie, which is one of our very favorite films of 2007. Hear the complete interview , conducted by our own Jamie S. Rich, on this weeks’ DVDTalk Radio.
